Boucheron: The Jeweller of Time
How Boucheron gained the title "Jeweller of Time"
Ever since it was founded by Frederic Boucheron in 1858, this dynasty of French jewellers has appealed unfailingly to the most demanding customers, providing them with some of the most precious creations in the world. Boucheron has been making watches ever since it opened for business and its skill in the area rapidly gained it the honorary title of "Jeweller of Time."
Moving away from a family run business
As early as 1867, the Paris Universal Exhibition jury gave a special mention to Boucheron's presentation of an "intriguing, extravagant" chatelaine. The company's tradition was carried on by four generations of the founders direct descendants. In 2000, the Gucci/PPR Group proved a worthy successor, taking up the company's torch and celebrating its 150th anniversary last year.
Boucheron's clientele list
With clientele of stars, writers, artists, maharajas and multimillionaires, Boucheron has always held a particular fascination for those whose slendor and prestige were reflected in the magnificence of its creation. Among the brand's faithful have been many crowned heads, including Maharaja Bhupinder Singh of Patiala, Reze Shah Pahlavi, Tsar Alexander II, Queen Farida of Egypt and Queen Rania of Jordan. The company's clientele has also included rich American families- the Astors, Vanderbilts and Rockefellers- as well as many legendary stars- Greta Garbo, Rita Hayworth, Marlene Dietrich and more recently, Nicole Kidman, Cameron Diaz, Katie Holmes, Julianne Moore and Anne Hathaway.
